To simplify the process of choosing a digital camera, we can put them all into two categories: Digital SLR's are the sophisticated and more expensive descendants of old 35mm film cameras. "Point-and-shoot" cameras lack much of the complexity of SLR's, are much more commonly used by the average non-professional, cost less and are easier to use.
