Thankfully, the days of dealing with heavy, glass-front CRT monitors have passed for most of us. In the past year or two, prices have finally dropped on flat-screen LCD monitors, so that a basic model is well within the price range of just about any computer owner. And if you're willing to pay just a little more, well, the sky's the limit with the latest 20-inch and over models.
As computing power has increased we've all gained the ability to run multiple applications at once. More screen space lets you see all those apps at the same time. (If you're into online poker, you know how handy it is to have multiple tables open at once!)
If you're using slightly-better-than-average video card with your system, there's a real good chance that it has "dual-monitor" capability that can probably drive two monitors at once - for even more screen "acreage"!
