Like most everything else in the computer world, printers have gained vast capabilities over the years. Long-gone are the days of working only with text printed using old "dot matrix" printers. These days it's entirely possible to buy a printer that will easily print any text document and create a decent photograph - for under $200. Epson and HP are the big guys in the printer making business, but some smaller companies also make useable machines. Inkjets are the standard for most people because of their ability to handle both text and images at a "reasonable" price. (But don't underestimate the cost of printer supplies: those ink cartridges can be pretty expensive.)
